Transportation TO and AROUND Unalaska

How do I get to the island?

There are daily flights from Anchorage, Alaska to *Unalaska or Ferry and Fly. If you are coming to Alaska from the contiguous U.S.  and have to overnight somewhere on the way here during the summer, visit one of our members in Seattle.  The Westcoast Sea-Tac Hotel in Seattle is directly across from the Seattle/Tacoma International Airport, and offers free shuttle service to and from the Airport. This would be the perfect place for anyone on their way to Alaska to overnight and dream about the adventures.

* Airlines refer to Unalaska as "Dutch Harbor". You will need to refer to "Dutch Harbor" when making your flight itinerary or searching for this destination on either of their websites.

* Alaska Airlines has added some additional seats for June 2002 because of high demand. To make sure you get a seat call USTravel @ 1-(907)-581-3133

WHAT TO PACK

Appropriate clothing and personal gear will ensure the fullest enjoyment of your Unalaska experience. We suggest you bring functional warm layers, including a hat, gloves, and thermal underwear. A windproof or waterproof jacket is a must. Hiking boots, sturdy shoes, or rubber boots are advised. Also, if you are fishing, you must provide your own Alaska Fishing Licenses. All charter boats provide tackle and bait, but bring your own waders if possible. Remember that the winter climate is usually milder than the rest of Alaska, but winds can create a chilling effect. The summer temperature can shift from 50-70 degrees. It is also recommended that you invest in travel insurance, so that when the unexpected happens, you will not be stuck with expensive bills. The planes on and off of the island cancel often. So be prepared!
