What is the time difference from the ‘Lower 48’?

Unalaska/Port of Dutch Harbor is in the Alaska Central Time Zone meaning we are 4 hours behind Eastern Standard Time and 1 hour behind Pacific Standard Time.

What is the Population?

 Approximately 4,300 year-round residents and 5,000-10,000 seasonal transient workers.

How many miles of road?

Approximately 7 miles of paved road and 38 miles of road total.

Do the people featured on the "Deadliest Catch" live in town?

 No, they only come for the fishing season. Most of them live in the continental U.S.

What is there to do when you aren’t working?
 We are so glad you asked, the City of Unalaska has a fantastic Parks, Culture and Receation department: Community Center, Library, Aquatics Center,Gym, indoor track and 9 parks throughout the city. And don't forget to check out the rest of this website!

Will my cell phone work in Unalaska/Port of Dutch Habor?

No! Well, not exactly. You will not have cell phone reception with the plan you currently have in the continental U.S. However, if you bring your phone with you and purchase an Unalaska/Dutch Harbor SIM card (the wireless provider here can do this for you) you will receive an Unalaska phone number and be able to use your phone.

What kind of transportation is available?

Choose one of the many taxicabs or rent a vehicle from B.C. Vehicle Rental or North Port Rentals while your on the islands.

Is there public access to the internet?

Visit the Unalaska Public Library to check e-mail, go to the Grand Hotel to surf the web or just come by the Visitor Center

What kinds of tours are available?

Land tours with ALEUT Tours, Extra Mile Tours and Mr. Kab. Marine tours are with some of the fishing charters, An air tour can be arranged with Peninsula Airways (Pen Air). Kayaking tours are available through Aleutian Adventure Sports. Or stop by the Visitor Center and pick up a self guided walking, driving or hiking tour
